Reflections on 2017

It was such a pleasure to welcome so many interesting people aboard, make many new friends and receive glowing feedback in 2017! I have grown more and more attached to this magical coastline and continue to discover new caves, hidden beaches, new anchorages, new dishes and Italian traditions.

There have been so many highlights…. watching a fantastic firework display from the sea with a packed party boat off Cetara for the Festa di San Pietro, being joined by a mega-pod of over fifty dolphins at sunset, hanging out with a sperm whale, early morning dips in perfect anchorages, long lazy lunches on the beach at Da Adolfo, late nights dancing in Positano and some exhilarating sailing. The summer kept on giving stretching way into October and I was still swimming in November. It was sad to leave Oh Susannah in a boat yard under Vesuvius but Summer 2018 is coming up fast and I am excited!

September full, now taking bookings for October

Warm sea, mellow sun, fewer tourists and cheaper marina fees make autumn a great time to sail on the Amalfi Coast. As the chaos of the summer season subsides and the tourist hordes depart, the locals and those in the know come out to enjoy the best of this Mediterranean paradise.

To help you extend your summer with an Autumn escape to the Amalfi coast Oh Susannah Charters is offering a no-nonsense 100% refund if you cancel upto 2 weeks before the booking, and 75% off cancellations within that time. In the unlikely event of any sailing days cancelled due to bad weather guests will be given a 50% discount per day allowing you to use the boat as a base to continue to explore the coastline and sights by land.

Summer starts here

Summer starts early in Southern Italy. With temperatures already climbing into the mid twenties there is a sense of growing momentum as restaurants and bars open up for the season and people spill into the streets long into the evening.

The first sail of the season was a good omen. With a perfect breeze on the beam we hoisted the main and unfurled the genoa and glided along the Costa Degli Dei (Coast of Gods) from Tropea to drop anchor off Capo Vaticano for lunch and a quick swim. Sunshine, white sand beaches and turquoise water melting into deep blue and you could easily be mistaken for thinking you’re in the Indian Ocean rather than the Med. The Aeolian islands appeared offshore and the Italian coast stretched down to the Straits of Messina and beyond to Sicily…  I didn’t want to turn back!! An early flight back to London the following day meant the next adventure will have to wait a month for the trip north.. The Amalfi Coast and the islands of the Gulf of Naples await, roll on June!

Benvenuti a Bordo!

I am thrilled to join the OS Crew again this year in August and excited at the prospect of sharing my passion for the place with you.

My varied role on board includes assisting the skipper above and below deck, helping to sail and ensuring guests are well looked after.  I enjoy sharing my local knowledge acquired over 20 years, and sourcing fresh ingredients for light meals aboard.  I’ll gladly translate if needed, though Ted is pretty good himself now.

See you in August!
